European Causeway

European Causeway operates back to back with sister ship European Highlander for P&O Ferries on the Larne - Cairnryan route. The vessel was the first of 3 ships designed for P&O Irish Sea operations and built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Japan. European Causeway was purpose built for the Larne - Cairnryan service, the only route which it has operated since launch in 2000. It's worth noting the vessel is slightly shorter than the European Highlander. Being the first of 3 vessels built some minor alterations were made to the design of her younger/larger sisters. European Causeway features 2 MES systems and 2 lifeboats compared to 4 Lifeboats and No MES on European Highlander. There are also some minor differences to note onboard such as 1 Passenger lift in centre casing compared to 2 on her larger sister. European Causeway has 3 vehicle decks, 2 and 3 are typical RoRo and deck 1 (lower hold) is accessible via a fixed internal ramp covered by a hatch from deck 2. European Causeway was detained by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency at Larne Port on the 26th March 2022 due to failing a Port State Control Inspection. The vessel recommenced commercial operations on the Larne-Cairnryan route on 9th April 2022 following a re inspection by the MCA.
